The Northern Daily Leader - Tag A Calf sale 2018 raises $10,000 for Westpac Chopper

It was a special day out at the Tamworth saleyards when the Tag A Calf sale was held.

Not only did the event raise $10,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, but it was also the first outing for little Will Mann, who needed the chopper when he was just one day old.

The Mann family, keen to give back to the service, also donated two heifers that raised $2000.

This was the seventh annual Tag A Calf sale, held earlier this month.

Vendors mark their calf’s ear tag with “WRHS”, the animals are auctioned normally and the vendors donate all or part proceeds from the sale.

“We raised a bit of money for a great service that’s in our area,” TLSAA spokesman Simon Burke said.

He said it was great to see the Manns at the event.

“They raised $2000 off their own bat, [giving] back to the service, which is a thing that we really need in the area and people really do rely on it.”

Matt and Lee Mann’s one-day-old son, Will, was flown to Newcastle on April 11 and spent three weeks in hospital.

They and Mr Mann’s parents Ivan and Rosanne, donated the heifers to be sold in appreciation of the chopper service.

“A huge thank you to everyone that gave so generously … including our sale sponsors, Peel Valley Machinery and McDonald Bros Transport, who will donate 10 per cent of all hay sales and transport from today to the chopper,” a TLSAA spokesperson said.

“We wish the Mann family all the best as they settle in at home with their new bundle of joy.”
