Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tag-A-Calf Sale
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tag-a-Calf Sale was held at the Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange (TRLX) on Friday 5th May where yarding of 3,695 head of high quality cattle drew a large gallery of buyers ensuring demand was strong and the prices were hot.
The sale supported the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, raising $6,000, with more donations to come. A further donation of $2,000 from RLX was made, in support of a great service that everyone in our communities relies on in case of emergencies.
It was fantastic to see our acting Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce, taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the sale and place a few bids once again showing his support for this great initiative and the producers of the region.
The sale presented a number of high quality lines of cattle with Purtle Plevey Pty Ltd offering an outstanding line of Angus cows from Warongah Pty Ltd, Manilla, which topped the market at $2,450/hd, in a sale that saw cows average $2,039/hd.
Mirrabooka Steers, on account of Peter and Helen Wauch through Pitt Sons Pty Ltd, Walcha, topped the steer portion of the market at $1340/hd for a great line-up of Angus Weaners with steers throughout the entire yarding averaging $1078/hd in a strongly supported sale with many quality lines available for astute buyers.
Sixteen ‘Booragul’ blood Angus Heifers topped the market at $1,225, offered by Landmark Livestock, on account of BM and J Pengilly.
Purtle and Plevey Pty Ltd agent, Samuel Plevey said that “the sale attracted a tremendous line up of cattle, from weaner’s right through to cows selling in a strong market. All cattle presented were a credit to the vendors and the market as a whole was once again very competitive with fantastic opportunities for buyers and sellers alike”.
A number of large vendors attended the sale at TRLX, presenting a large lines of quality cattle which provided great interest from not buyers present and but also those participating online. TRLX Operations Manager, Gavin Tickle confirmed that, “the Warongah cattle presented today were an obvious highlight. It is rare to find a run of cows, of such high quality, presented in the numbers that we had today and it was an honour to see them sold at TRLX”.
“TRLX Westpac Tag a Calf sale was a huge success. A lot of preparation went into the facility in the last 10 days to prepare for this feature sale, and a big thank you must go to all the selling agents and the TRLX staff for the effort and attention to detail they always show. I would also like to acknowledge the support and effort from the sponsors and trade displays from Peel Valley Machinery, Zoetis, Eagle Powersports Tamworth and Tamworth Rural for their support to this event”, said Gavin Tickle.
