BEFORE he had even hit the water on his fishing trip, Mac Shann, Lamont Droughtmasters, Cantaur Park, Clermont, had caught a mighty haul all thanks to his wife, Gayle, and her bidding to secure the top price bull during the first day of selling at the Droughtmaster National Bull Sale.

Gayle was on hand to purchase Oasis Dundee from the Geddes family, Oasis Droughtmasters, Emerald, for $135,000 while Mac enjoyed a fishing trip off the coast.

Just before heading out onto the water and losing phone reception for a few days, Gayle kept him up to speed with Dundee’s bids, until it cut out at $80,000.

Mac didn’t believe her when she called back to tell him they had brought the bull for $135,000.

She said usually Mac brought the bulls but she wasn’t willing to let Dundee pass her by.

“It’s not very often you find an animal that has got everything you are looking for,” she said.

The top price was the start of an impressive sale for the Geddes family who sold 10 bulls on day one to average $33,050.

Overall the first day of selling, saw 285 bulls sell for an average of $9722.
